Chilean born Master Artist Pablo Artal began to seriously study art at the age of twelve and began making a living from his art at age seventeen. He received a Masters in Art and Graphic Design from The National School of Graphic Arts, Santiago, Chile in 1956, and dedication to his art led him to travel throughout all of South America.
Pablo taught art and design at The School of Art in Cali, Colombia where he also founded the gallery workshop “La Rotonda” receiving Honorable Mention by Marta Traba – Salon Croydon. He was set designer at The Experimental Theater in Cali and exhibitions in that city included The Conservatory, a Division of Culture and Beaux Arts, a group exhibition with Hernando y Lucy Tejada, Maria Teresa Negreiros and Jan Barstelman entitled “La Tertulia”, V Salon at the Cali Art Festival, and the Graphic Image Art Festival. He founded a graphic art workshop in Quito, Ecuador to reproduce the Osvaldo Guayasamin work “The Age of Wrath” and undertook a traveling workshop tour through Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela with that artist entitled “Graphics and Paintings of South America” in 1968. He also co-founded The Graphics Center of INCIBA in collaboration with Luis Cacon, Alirio Rodriguez, Juan Calzadilla and Ida Gramko.
The entire family moved to Isla de Margaria, Nueva Esparta, Venezuela to live in a simpler and less stressful environment after a plane made an unscheduled landing in the building which housed his publicity agency. In 1982, Pablo moved his family to The Gran Sabana, Santa Elena, Venezuela on the border of Brazil where he continued to design and construct various tourist camps. In 1990, he built himself a studio/workshop and rededicated himself to his art.
Pablo and his wife currently reside in the Gran Sabana where he continues to paint while running the Posada he designed and constructed – perfect for en plein aire workshops.
Although his technique has always been unique, he began experimenting with a new technique he calls “figurative kineticism” after meeting vanguard artist Carlos Cruz Diez. By superimposing lines and colors, his paintings result in a vibration on the canvas. Extraordinary. ***Mr. Artal’s artworks are shipped as rolled canvas ready for stretching. Wrapped edges are painted and the pieces do not require framing.*** Please enjoy this gallery of previously sold artwork by clicking on the below link.
